How innovations arise

Research & Development

Every innovation begins with a bold idea, a market requirement, or technological developments. Since 1999, we have been developing emergency lighting solutions in-house that meet the highest technical standards and set new benchmarks. We approach the limits of what is possible with courage and openness in order to make emergency lighting safer and more efficient.

But we also know that innovation needs to be practical. That’s why our development and production teams work side by side. Together with input from customers, partners, industry experts, and standards committees, we create emergency lighting solutions that work reliably in every situation.

Diversity Research

Interdisciplinary development at the Linz site

Our research and development team includes experts with a wide range of specialist skills in the fields of electronics, software development, mechanics, lighting technology, and fire protection. This diversity of expertise enables us to better understand complex requirements and develop holistic solutions. Our new developments are created in-house. Our location in Linz plays a central role in this. The physical proximity and close collaboration create ideal conditions for quick coordination, creative solutions, and the highest quality of development.

With the din full warranty covering 50,000 hours or 5.7 years, we guarantee full functionality for all components. Without exception.

Tested for reliability

Our research facilities

From the initial sketch to market readiness, our development and production teams work seamlessly together to turn ideas into series-ready products. Right from the development stage, we focus on resource-efficient product design and durable materials. We put every product through its paces in our research facilities. The result is innovations that function reliably for years and prove their worth in dangerous situations.

Environmental simulation

Emergency lighting in extreme conditions

Our products and components undergo targeted stress tests in our in-house environmental simulation facility. These include tests for dust and water ingress, mechanical impact resistance, chemical, temperature, and humidity resistance, as well as special requirements in potentially explosive atmospheres.

These tests form the basis for certifications and ensure the reliable and long-term functioning of our solutions, even under difficult environmental conditions.

Electromagnetic compatibility

Electromagnetic compatibility

Focus on resilience

The electromagnetic compatibility of our components with regard to external interference is a key test criterion. This enables us to guarantee that our products function reliably in the event of electrostatic discharges and other electromagnetic influences and do not cause any interference themselves.

Our tests deliberately exceed the applicable standards and underline our high quality standards.

Light laboratory

Precise light measurement for maximum efficiency

To ensure that our luminaires meet lighting requirements, we test factors such as light distribution, brightness, color temperature, and energy efficiency. The results are incorporated directly into the development process and support the technical optimization of our luminaires.

Our modern lighting laboratory is crucial for the development of standard-compliant solutions and provides important measurement data for lighting calculations, spacing tables, and lighting designs.

Escape route simulation

Escape route simulation

Testing security in real-world scenarios

An escape route is safe if it provides people with guidance in an emergency and leads them reliably to safe places. In our escape route simulation, we test emergency lighting solutions under realistic conditions to better understand how people behave when smoke develops and how effective different emergency lighting solutions are.

This provides us with valuable insights, which in turn are incorporated into the development of forward-looking technologies and make escape routes more effective.

Materials science

Materials science

Materials put to the test

Reliability starts with the right material. That is why we select our materials with the utmost care in terms of quality, recyclability, and sustainability. We focus on materials such as plastic, aluminum, acrylic glass, and various sealing materials. We analyze these materials for their optical, thermal, and mechanical properties and test their temperature behavior, susceptibility to corrosion, and weather resistance.

This is the only way we can develop products that meet our high standards.

Durability as proof of our quality

Headquarters Linz

Our TUBE 2 handrail lights at our headquarters in Linz have now been shining continuously for over 122,500 hours. They replace general lighting and also serve as the ideal solution for efficiently illuminating the stairwell in the evening.

This is the eco-design thinking principle of din.

Durability as proof of our quality

MED-EL

The SILVIA and EOS emergency signs have been in use in this part of the building since 2012, clearly marking the escape routes and still blending harmoniously into the architecture.

Durability as proof of our quality

Since 2011, our TUBE handrail lights have been providing continuous, safe orientation for the Ampass Volunteer Fire Brigade. The solution, which is flush-mounted in the stainless steel handrail, reliably guides the emergency services every step of the way.

Durability as proof of our quality

WU Wien

Since 2012, around 11,000 of our emergency and safety lights have been illuminating the WU Vienna campus. Efficient, durable and in line with the green building concept, the lights are still in operation today without a single replacement.

Durability as proof of our quality

Fiegl & Spielberger Innsbruck

Our formerly popular SOL emergency sign luminaire and the TUBE 264 integrated into the handrail have been providing uninterrupted orientation and safety in emergencies at the electrical installation company since 2013.

Knowledge through exchange

Progress cannot be achieved alone. That is why we cooperate with colleges, universities, and educational partners to promote young talent and work together on tomorrow’s solutions. Because innovation begins with curiosity and openness to other opinions, experts, ideas, and companies. This is exactly what we practice in joint development projects, theses, and company tours, where we pass on our knowledge and gain valuable insights in return.

Educational partnerships

In joint projects, we combine theory and practice: school and university students develop practical solutions and are closely supported by our teams. Technical theses, internships, and project weeks provide deep insights. Talented individuals work on real-world tasks and learn about interdisciplinary processes in a modern technology company.

Networking events

In lectures, workshops, or guided tours of our visionLABs, we share our expertise with the next generation of technicians, planners, and developers. At the same time, we consciously seek dialogue. We rely on the impulses generated through exchanges with customers, industry colleagues, and companies from other sectors, at trade fairs, or in joint projects with partner companies.

External research institutions

In cooperation with specialized research institutions, testing institutes, and technical experts, we work on application-oriented projects to further develop our emergency lighting solutions. We contribute our practical knowledge, and in return, this close exchange allows us to incorporate the latest scientific findings and new perspectives directly into our development work.
