The challenge
The Rainer barracks in Salzburg have been owned by a renowned Austrian company since 2012. After several years of planning and development, work began on adapting the historic site buildings. As parts of the barracks are listed buildings, they were excluded from the extensive construction work.
The challenge was to integrate separate emergency lighting into the existing general lighting without changing the structure of the building. In addition, the new luminaires had to be adapted so that they did not cast any shadows on the light distribution of the existing lighting. In other words, there had to be no noticeable difference in colour. Another difficulty was that the existing lighting was not DC-compatible (direct voltage) and therefore could not be controlled via the emergency lighting system. A safe solution also had to be found for this.
