Not emergency light

Weatherproof anti-panic lighting as step lighting

« Back

The challenge

For event venues, anti-panic lighting with an illuminance of at least 0.5 lux is required by law. This ensures that it never gets darker than the limit value in this area. This is not normally a problem. Unless there is no roof or ceiling and the anti-panic lighting is exposed to the weather – as is the case with the lake stage in Bregenz. A solution therefore had to be found that could withstand the weather conditions, illuminate the area in accordance with standards and at the same time not dazzle the visitors.

The solution

In close collaboration and coordination with architects, electrical planners and metalworkers, the seating was mounted on a truss. The anti-panic lighting was integrated into this traverse so that it can function as both anti-panic and step lighting. The lens of the lighting was integrated directly into the truss and protected with a customised 3D housing to ensure optimal light distribution without glare. Several prototypes led to a perfect result for everyone involved. In the end, around 450 of these customised solutions were installed in this project.
