Safely through the railway tunnel

Tunnel Pekel

As part of the new construction of the 1,530 metre long Pekel railway tunnel in Slovenia, which replaces the original tunnel from 1846, we were able to make a significant contribution to the project with our innovative solutions in the field of transport infrastructure. The ‘Pekel’ tunnel was replaced by a new tunnel because the old infrastructure no longer met the requirements of modern traffic. The new tunnel route, which is an important part of the Baltic-Adriatic Corridor and represents a central link between Austria and the Mediterranean corridor, was planned and implemented in strict compliance with the European regulations TSI ENE and TSI SRT. Alongside the Karawanken Tunnel, the Pekel Tunnel is the second railway tunnel in Slovenia to be built in accordance with these strict EU standards.

Our specially developed lighting solutions make a significant contribution to safety. For example, an illuminated handrail in the tunnel ensures optimum orientation in an emergency.

Modern solutions for safety in rail transport

A wide range of our tried-and-tested products were used for the project. The stainless steel handrail system was equipped with our TUBE-BK luminaires, specially developed for railway infrastructure, which are seamlessly integrated into the handrail. To complement this, we installed products from our CONCEPT family, which are monitored and controlled by our reliable SU 6 NET devices in a customised type. This sophisticated combination not only ensures maximum safety, but also sets new standards in modern tunnelling.
